Last week, all across France, Parisians returned to Paris from the beaches and countryside, back to the city, schools, and work. A similar trend occurred in the United States after the long weekend, marking the unofficial end of summer and the return to school and work, a transition without a specific name. This time of year has always been a favorite.
At Bel Lavoro, it's a significant time of year as we prepare to get back to work. The trees and olives are coated with white chalk, a natural and organic method to shield them from fruit flies. We are carefully monitoring the olives for growth and volume, anticipating the harvest timing and yield. Timing and yield – the essence of a farmer's life.
This year, abundant rainfall and a moist marine layer in the spring have been beneficial. We have experienced a warm summer so far, beneficial for the olives' health. Excessive heat can lead to rapid ripening of the olives.
Transitioning from olives to leaves, we are also gearing up for the tea season. While it's still warm, sweater weather is approaching. We are well-stocked with all five blends, witnessing an increase in tea sales as customers shift from summer iced drinks to a soothing cup of tea.
Whether you are involved in olives or leaves, here's to la rentrée and the beautiful work that lies ahead.
